So, who or what exactly is CHADD?

CHADD is an American “non-profit organization founded in 1987 in response to the frustration and sense of isolation experienced by parents and their children with AD/HD”, according to a statement on the home page of its website.

CHADD seems to be a major player in the ‘ADHD’ debate. Other facts about the organization that it’s happy to make public knowledge include:

“CHADD is the only national organization representing individuals with AD/HD with a full-time advocate in Washington, D.C. CHADD's Director of Public Policy works to build relationships with the United States Congress and administrative agencies such as the Departments of Education, Health and Human Services and Labor in order to present the organization's perspective on legislation and policies affecting individuals with AD/HD.”

“CHADD was instrumental in advocating for the development of the 1991 Department of Education Policy Clarification Memorandum on AD/HD, which specified that children with AD/HD may qualify for special education and related services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 solely on the basis of their AD/HD when it impairs educational performance or learning.”
